With St. Valentine’s Day straight ahead we’re designing a new room vignette at Moss + Mineral – this month’s theme is Simma! Setting the mood is a long, low-slung couch in the most biting shade of red – a bit like Campari with a float of obsession. It’s got a simmering retro feel all right, but the construction is state of the art with crimson upholstery over a hardwood frame, angled metal legs, and for support ultra-strong Pirelli webbing (a material used in race car tires) instead of springs. Stretch out on this thing and you won’t feel like a couch potato but a couch puma.
A great room demands an element of drama provided by supercool art and furniture – and here, artist Sean Alexander excels. We are proud to introduce Sean’s new mid-century modern inspired furniture – plus, new artwork that takes a 180-degree turn from his earlier illustrative work. These exclusive pieces will be on view at the opening on Thursday, February 20, 4-8pm, through April 1.
Now that the stage is set, it’s time for you or your favorite squeeze to simma – game on with scrumptious accessories by Virginia Bunker! These exquisite handmades invoke the quality of the past with materials like velvet, grosgrain ribbon and upcycled curly lamb fur transformed into one-of-a-kind showstoppers.
How about a men’s vintage silk tie refashioned into a louche drape for around her throat? Or a romantic ribbon belt sporting a fabulous, saucer-size flower? These pieces can be worn for evening or daytime – anytime you want to add jazz to the mix. Virginia will be making an in-store appearance with her romantic accessories on Thursday, February 20, 4-8pm.
That’s what we’ve got simmering for February. Baby, it’s cold outside, so make it into Moss + Mineral soon. M+M, 305 South 9th St. in Tacoma, 253.961.5220. ~ Lisa Kinoshita
