In this amazing TED talk (click here), Los Angeles artist and green activist, Ron Finley, describes his inner-city neighborhood, and how community gardening is rapidly changing it via a (horti)cultural revolution.
“South Central Los Angeles [is] home of the drive-thru and the drive-by,” he says. “The funny thing is, the drive-thrus are killing more people than the drive-bys. People are dying from curable diseases in South Central L.A.” After witnessing the toll poor nutrition and fast food were having on his community, Finley shaped a brilliant and exuberant response: “I planted a food forest in front of my house.” His idea went viral.
