A sense of fragility resonates through this show which features common objects rendered with uncommon originality by two of the area’s finest clay artists.
Nyland, an accomplished painter and sculptor, and a finalist for the 2013 Contemporary Northwest Art Award, is known for his manhandled clay forms – some functional, some not – that writhe with luscious color.
Educated in Tokyo, Nakamura is the recipient of awards including a Pollock-Krasner Grant. She creates pure, simple forms (notably, light bulbs and soccer balls) that elevate their common subject matter to the iconic. Both artists are past recipients of the prestigious Artist Trust Fellowship. Please come see work by Yuki Nakamura and Nicholas Nyland starting May 9, and stay tuned for the artist reception in June.
