Moss + Mineral is a design store whose seed was an art gallery, Mineral (2003-2011), founded and curated by Lisa Kinoshita. After taking a break from the jewelry bench to work on larger-scale work and public art, Lisa found that she couldn’t resist having a place to share the designed as well as natural objects that inspire her. Her own contemporary jewelry and botanical work are among the designs you’ll find at Moss + Mineral.

M+M is located in downtown Tacoma, 30 miles south of Seattle. Tacoma is a port city known for its historic architecture, eclectic art museums and diamond-in-the-rough urban culture. It also boasts the likelihood of one day owning the world’s largest Andy Warhol artwork, a design commissioned by the City in 1982 to cover the roof of the Tacoma Dome, yet to be realized. One more reason why we love this city on Puget Sound.

Lisa Kinoshita is an artist, independent curator and freelance writer.

Lisa, Yesterday one of my clients came in wearing this amazing necklace that she’d bought at SAM. As we talked I told her of visiting my friend’s art opening in Lisa Kinoshita’s gallery in Tacoma. She was certain that was the name of the artist who had made her necklace! Such a small world. I really love your space.

      Hi Beverly,

It was wonderful to reconnect at the opening! And what a cool coincidence with your client. Hope to cross paths again soon…

P.S. You looked like a gem in the crystal heart brooch.

  2. Megan

I drooled looking in your windows on Friday afternoon.
That is my forehead print! 🙂
You had me with the name of your shop and didn’t disappoint with the amazing things I spied inside. Specifically the floor lamp in the window!!!!!!
    Sorry to have missed you!

Hi Megan! Luckily we don’t check forehead prints at M+M! 🙂 Thank you for the kind words and sorry to have missed you…I’m down here frequently to water the plants so call anytime you want to come by…The mid-century floor lamp is made of wood with a “Scandinavian weave” shade that gives off nice, soft light. I’m closed now through March 15, but have lots of new stuff coming in right after. Thanks for writing!!
